Incorrect Weight Rating on Your Jayco? The GAWR Recall Explained

The recent safety recall for certain 2026 Jayco Seismic fifth wheel travel trailers highlights a crucial safety issue that could have major consequences. The recall (NHTSA ID 25V578) states that the certification label on these vehicles lists an incorrect Gross Axle Weight Rating (GAWR). While this may seem like a minor labeling issue, it poses a significant risk. An incorrect GAWR could lead to a driver unknowingly overloading the vehicle, which can cause poor handling, tire failure, and increase the risk of a crash.

The defect is a simple but dangerous error on the vehicle’s certification label. The label incorrectly lists the axle's capacity, which could mislead an owner into loading more weight onto the trailer than it is designed to handle. Overloading a vehicle can put a tremendous strain on its tires, suspension, and other critical components. This can result in a catastrophic tire blowout or a loss of vehicle control, especially when braking or navigating turns. It's a risk that no driver should have to take.

Jayco has announced that they will mail corrected labels to all affected owners free of charge. In some cases, owners may also be able to get a dealer to install the new label. While this is a simple remedy, the underlying issue of a manufacturer's failure to provide accurate safety information is serious. Moreover, if your vehicle has experienced problems, like tire failure or suspension issues, because it was unknowingly overloaded, you may have a legal claim beyond a simple label replacement.
